Compare five cards, then the kickers
From strongest to weakest: straight flush, four of a kind, full house, flush, straight, three of a kind, two pair, one pair and high card. A royal flush is an ace-high straight flush.
Equal categories are compared by their relevant ranks. For two pair, compare the higher pair, then the lower pair, then the remaining card. For a flush, compare all five ranks from highest to lowest. Suits never break a tie.
An ace can be high in A–K–Q–J–10 or low in 5–4–3–2–A. It cannot wrap a sequence such as Q–K–A–2–3. Identical best-five scores split the pot, regardless of unused private cards.
